Sad News:

Con Trios Member Jim Farr passed away Saturday, February 6th, 2010. Jim was a long time Con Trios member, boater and friend. Past Commodore Bill Mixon sent an email saying "He wanted to go to the Miami Boat Show – he was able to spend his last day on the beach enjoying the sun and ocean. Mark Galati was with him to the end. He was a good friend – he will be missed." Jim often helped Bill with the cooking at Con Trios events and I had the pleasure of working with him for many years on the DSRA Shootout.
Jim's obituary and funeral arrangements:
James Farr

A good Friend
Jim Farr is survived by his mother Madeline.
His family consisted of several cats and his friends. Jimmie loved being an active member of Con Trios

Con Trios Yacht Club Holiday Party was a great time. Thanks to all that attended. The Airport Hilton had the room set up beautifully and their Head Chef, John Klipp, prepared us some great food. Started things off with drinks and appetizers in the hospitality room and then on to the Banquet Room. The new Board was introduced, awards and Thank Yous presented and then the "All Mixed Up" band entertained us until midnight when everybody, including the band, headed back to the hospitality room to continue the party.
Sunday morning was drinks and muffins to start the day as I got to watch the 2010 Fleet Captain Scotty haul everything off! What a fun year Maureen and I have had! Looking forward to what Scott and Lisa have up their sleeves for us in 2010. Many Thanks to everyone for everything this year. Thanks to all our members that donated canned goods and / or money for the food pantry at the Membership Party! Delivered about 300 pounds of foodstuff and $100 in cash to the New Hope Food Pantry on Highway 94. Mike that runs it really appreciated the contribution as they are running short.

Con Trios Yacht Club Boat Swap Meet and Membership Party held on October 17th, 2009.
Our first ever "Boat Swap Meet" was held in front of Sundowners at Yacht Club of St. Louis. We had about a dozen fellow boaters bring some of their extra boat stuff to sell. Even with the threatening weather quite a few bargains were had. Thanks to Frito Lay and Pepsico we had free soft drinks and snacks for the buyers and sellers! Thanks to Yacht Club of St. Louis for allowing us to class up the place with our boat "Flea Market" for the day!
Speaking of free stuff, our Membership Party that followed immediately after was free to all our members that brought canned goods for a local food pantry going along with the theme of "Give Back", both to our loyal members and to the Community. Got quite a load of canned goods to deliver thanks to the generosity of our members. We also featured a pink color scheme in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Well over one hundred members and guests enjoyed the music from the "Daves Not Here" band and appetizers prepared by Sundowners. Our new Board of Directors was announced and a small bylaws change was made to make it easier to fill the position of Fleet Surgeon by simply requiring that person to be a member of the medical community. Thanks to everyone for voting.
Attendance prizes were presented to our members based on who had the most Con Trios wristbands from attending the most events this year. We had two member couples that attended ALL the events so far! Mark Miles and Barb along with John and Pat DiFatta have been at all 10 events and each recieved a cooler donated by Dr. Pepper with its own stand. Second Place with 9 events attended was Past Commodore Sonny Robbins and Marsha, Past Commodore Carl Tiemann and Mary along with our wonderful raffle ticket seller Ruthie Durmeier and Ted, each received bottles of wine donated by JP's Sports Bar in Eureka and Grafton Harbor.
Speaking of raffles, Secretary Alan Deutschmann's Significant Other Julie won the 50/50 for the second time this year. All in all a great time with great friends. Many thanks to all our members that helped with the events. Click here to see all the pictures posted.
Maureen and I have had a wonderful experience as Fleet Captain and look forward to our last two events, the "Get Together" November 14th at Big Muddy and then closing out our year with the Holiday Party at the Airport Hilton on December 5th. It has been a lot of work but the fun we have had more than cancels out that part. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of our members better as the year has gone on.

John and Kay at the Alton Getaway in August of 2009
Kay Dowell, wife of longtime Con Trios Yacht Club Member John Dowell passed away Sunday afternoon (October 11th, 2009) after suffering a stroke on the day she was to go home from the hospital after surgery. John has been a fixture of Con Trios for many years, most of you know him as one of the Champagne Servers at the Champagne Brunch, the rest of us know him as a dear friend and our Judge Advocate on the Con Trios Board. Our condolences and thoughts are with John at this time. More information on a Memorial will be posted as soon as possible. Please keep John and his family in your thoughts and prayers. John and Kay boat out of Duck Club Yacht Club in the cruiser "Last Dance".
Posted October 11th, 2009
Email condolences:
From Ron and Jane Freeman:
OMG - we are so, so sorry to hear about this. We were on John and Kay's cruiser many times. At one point we were to go with John and Kay on a trip with the other boaters, however, John's cruiser overheated and we had to come back. We went to Alton instead and just had the best time!! We will always remember Kay's beauty and she made a mean breakfast casserole!!! Our hearts and prayers are with John and Kay's family at this time. Please keep us updated asap on the arrangements. If at all possible, we would like to attend the services.
Thanks,
Ron and Jane
From Karen and Bob Brncic:
This is so very sad about Kay. She was a personal friend to Bob and I and we will miss her. Our sympathy goes out to John and her family. She was a class act.

WOW, WHAT A TURNOUT! We had about 160 Con Trios Members and Guests at the Alton Marina for our 2009 Alton Getaway. The party started early Friday with an impromptu "Dock Party" on H Dock where most of us were docked. It was like having our own marina. After some took side trips to Tony's, Fast Eddie's, The Alton Casino, Bubby and Sissys, etc. on Friday night the party continued. Saturday morning we put up our tent and Two Mikes and a Beer began cooking. Most enjoyed a pool party in the Marina's floating pool until it came time to chow down on some fantastic ribs. After dinner we enjoyed the tunes of the Ralph Butler Band courtesy of Alton Marina where quite a few of the Alton residents joined us. Some even went back to continue the pool party. The layout at Alton Marina is ideal for the party to flow back and forth between the land, the docks, the pool and who knows where. Many, many THANK YOUS are in order, Alton Marina's General Manager Karen Baker-Brncic and their Harbormaster Jeremy Fowler, Past Commodore Mike Tremmell and his crew "Two Mikes and a Beer", my First Mate Maureen, Commodore Denny Galkowski and his First Lady Pat, Craig and Connie Scheafnocker, Barb Nelson and Janet Rogliardi doing the 50/50, Linda Weller of the Alton Telegraph for the wonderful story she did on the event and our donation to the volunteer rescue group Wings of Angels, all the members that helped put up and take down the tents and tables, the Man Above that graced us with such perfect weather and many more that did all they could to make this a great time. Enjoy the pictures and Thanks again to all. See you all again on the Full Moon Cruise coming up September 4th.
Fleet Captain Darryll Weil
Email from Con Trios members Bill and Jean Tullock, 8/17/2009:
Hi Darryll, Hope you and Maureen are doing well. We came home from Florida late yesterday and I was just checking some email this morning. Wow, looks like everyone had a great time at the Alton Party! Looks like congratulations are in order for another great job by you and Maureen. While we were on vacation we visited the Sarasota Yacht Club and met with their Dock Master Mike. They have a great Burgee collection on display inside their temporary location and we traded Burgees with them and now Con Trios Yacht Club can be proud to have our Burgee on display there as well. - continued -

Con Trios Yacht Club Luau at Grafton Harbor, July 18th, 2009
PICTURES ARE UP, GO TO THE "PHOTO GALLERIES" PAGE!
We had a great turnout for the Luau on Saturday. Weather was a little on the coolish side so the pool toys, beach balls and water squirters, did not get much use. But, typical Con Trios party, the almost one hundred that filled the harbor with boats made it a fun day. Turned into one giant "Dock Party" on A Dock. DJ Ray played some great tunes directly from his boat poolside! How appropriate is that, we are a boating club and the disk jockey is on a boat! Joe and Jan from Grafton Harbor were wonderful hosts as always. Their staff is the most friendly and helpful you can find anywhere. Scott from Grafton's Landing kept the food going the whole time. Must have been good because there seemed to always be a line at the buffet. Many thanks to all the people that helped set up and tear down. Here are a couple of pics from the day, many more to follow as I get caught up.

Drag Boat Races at Creve Coeur Lake, June 20th-21st, 2009

What a GREAT IDEA Past Commodore Tim Tighe had! Con Trios participated in the 30th Annual Creve Coeur Classic Drag Boat Races at Creve Coeur Lake. Besides an exciting weekend of racing for the over 100 people from Con Trios Yacht Club we shared our tent with Autism Speaks (the primary charity of the event) where they had games and such for the kids. Thanks to the St. Louis Drag Boat Association for putting us front and center on the water, the banner on the VIP Tent and the VIP tickets for the weekend for our members. Talking to our guests quite a few had never experienced Drag Boat Racing in our backyard. Safe to say most were quite impressed watching boats accelerate to 180 MPH in just a quarter of a mile. We all enjoyed cheering on our Past Commodore John Bicknese's boat "Kwitchabitchin" and his driver, 18 year old Ashly Ruf, daughter of Con Trios members Keith and Terrie Ruf. Ashly is the youngest female driver to be certified in a 180 MPH capsule boat! She did not win her class but she wooped a man in a grudge match after the regular racing, beating him by one hundredth of a second! Posted a few pictures on the "Photo Galleries" page. Will have some more pictures (from Lisa for sure) and more information, check back again.
Many thanks to all that helped set up and take down our tent and tables. Friday it was Past Commodores Gary Meinershagen, Mike Ramirez, Board Members Bill Brueggeman, Mike Baisch, Scott Hickey and myself. Monday Gary, Bill, Mike Baisch and myself were back along with Past Commodores Sonny Robbins and Tim Tighe, Mike's two boys and Con Trios Member Ernie Stolze.

Champagne Brunch 2009 photos are up!

Where do I start Thanking all the wonderful people who helped make the Champagne Brunch such a fun, fun day? All the previous Fleet Captains that set the standard? Darn right! The entire Board of Directors that helped every step of the way, especially on Sunday? Darn right again. My First Mate Maureen for her help all year and putting up with me? Right again. Jon and Kelley at Sundowners? For sure. All of our members and their guests who showed up and helped make the day special? Absolutely, all 206 of them!
An event like the Champagne Brunch and the way everyone pitches in reminds me why I joined Con Trios Yacht Club. Many, many Thanks to all of you. The day began with threatening weather that somehow stayed away from Yacht Club. Sundowners did their usual excellent job with the brunch and setup. Champagne and strawberries were served by all the board members. The "Daves Not Here" band played some awesome music all afternoon. I had way too much fun celebrating my 60th Birthday along with the Champagne Brunch. Pictures are coming in, check out the "Photo Galleries" page. The "Flag Day" theme is very evident in the photos.
Con Trios member Terrie Bert of the boat "Gulliewash" has posted a cool slideshow of his pictures from the Champagne Brunch at:

Check it out, Thanks much Terrie

April Get Together report:

Over a hundred enjoyed the appetizers, music by Harold "On The Road Again", good friends and a beautiful view of the water from the deck and Tiki Bar.

Many thanks to the photographers and everyone else who helped make it a fun weekend. Hope to see all of you at the "Get Together" on April 25th at Oasis Bar and Grill at North Shore Marina. |

February Get Together was a blast, place was packed. After being totally shocked at the terrific turnout in January I could not believe the crowd was even larger and came earlier. Big Muddy had added staff for the day to accomodate us and did a great job at taking care of the over 140 people. They did run out of food near the end but none of us expected such an overwhelming number of fun people showing up. Dan, John, Cindra, Denise, Donna and all the staff deserve a big Thanks. The 50/50 Raffle may have set some sort of record. Thanks to Ruthie's sales skills we gave away a grand prize of 500 along with several other prizes donated by our 2009 donors that Maureen has contacted. Maureen also had several attendance prizes that were given out in a separate drawing. We have a ton of pictures of the festivities Thanks to Lisa Hickey, Mark Miles and Yours Truly. The "Mardis Gras" theme is very evident in the photos, especially the Con Trios Yacht Club beads that were part of the raflle sales (the same beads Ruthie's S.O. Ted had to keep untangling). Lenny Frisch kept his steel drums beating with some very enjoyable music all afternoon. As near as I could tell everyone had as good a time as I did. I know I am going to miss some but Thanks to everyone for all their help! Barb Nelson was there the whole time helping Maureen with Registration, Commodore Denny Galkowski tearing raffle tickets, untangling beads and several others whose names I lost in the fog of the day! When you see the big winners, Bill Tullock and his lovely bride Jean, tell them we're still waiting for that round of drinks. Hope to see you all at the Icebreaker March 27th & 28th.

January Get Together report:
Being a little panic stricken having to follow all the previous Fleet Captains I thought having a simple "Get Together" as our first event would make things a little easier.
Didn't matter, I was still worried, hoped we would get at least a few people, maybe 50 or so? Well, about 2:30 on Saturday my First Mate Maureen, who was handling Registrations along with Barb, flagged me down and said "You can relax and have a drink, we are at 51 now!". Made it, over 50 people came.
Eventually we wound up with over a hundred counting the ones that came in after the raffle and food were done. John, Cindra, our waitress (who somehow found me and kept me supplied all day) and all the staff of Big Muddy did their best to keep the food and drinks going. Dan was even working all day keeping things clean and stocked.
Good day, bad day thing for them that Saturday. Another local restaurant had a water main break closing them and their lunch crowd showed up at Big Muddy just before our event was to begin. They handled it all well.
Dan Sprout played a very nice assortment of music, as in I recognized most all of the songs.
Raffle prizes handed out included $250 cash, one nights lodging at Sleep Inn and Suites behind Big Muddy, $25 gift certificate from Big Muddy and a Crown Royal pocket flask with it's own purple bag from my personal collection.
I would like to thank everyone who attended and am looking forward to seeing all of you at next month's Get Together on Saturday, February 28th, 2PM to 6PM, same place, same great time.
Many thanks to all who helped out. Maureen, Barb and Marie with registration, Ronnie helping me count the money, Lisa taking pictures and everyone who helped make our first event of 2009 a lot of fun.
